Port authorities of Curacao and Aruba sign cooperation agreement

CPA and APA will make optimal use of business opportunities to positively benefit both islands

Willemstad, Curaçao – Curaçao Ports Authority N.V. (CPA) and Aruba Ports Authority N.V. (APA) signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) on Tuesday, November 18, 2014. The Director of CPA, Mr. Humberto de Castro, and the Director of APA, Mr. Jossy Figaroa, have signed a mutual cooperation agreement addressing the following main objectives:

  1. Improving economic prosperity for our communities by trading through both companies;
  2. Achieving competitive advantages within the region;
  3. Exchange of information between ports (including commercial area);
  4. Attracting more ports in the ‘Deep South Caribbean’ region to reach mutual cooperation in the area of cruise tourism.

The aim is to achieve the above objectives by joining forces in marketing, exchanging information and various aspects of the maritime industry. The MOU has a term of one year and will be renewed after evaluation, with adjustments if necessary.

CPA_APA AgreementMr. Figaroa states that he’s pleased that CPA has embraced this initiative, which was proposed by APA. The intention is to draw similar cooperation agreements with other ports in the region in the next couple of months.

Mr. de Castro sees the joint forces of the two ports as a great opportunity to create mutual synergies related to strategic activities and in addition to make use of the opportunities to do business, where both islands will be able to benefit positively.

Also present during the signing were Mr. Humphrey Tromp, CFO of APA, Mr. Raul Manotas, CCO of CPA and Ms. Tamara Waldron, Marketing & Communications Manager at APA.
