Soon Curaçao Ports Authority (CPA) will start with the project “Renovation Pier Klein Curaçao.”

Willemstad, Curaçao – Soon Curaçao Ports Authority (CPA) will start with the project “Renovation Pier Klein Curaçao.” The Minister of Economic Development, Mr. Stanley M. Palm, realized the importance of this project and made the implementation possible.

Klein Curaçao is a favorite destination of both the local people and tourists. At present it is difficult to go on land as the pier has been damaged by the many storms and overdue maintenance. The idea is to make Klein Curaçao more attractive to both the local people and tourists and fishermen. By renovating the existing pier it will be easier for the boats to drop off people and goods. The renovation also includes the placing by the Government of four buoys where boats can moor.

This project will also have a positive impact on Curaçao’s economy. First because of the investment pertaining to the work that needs to be done and second the island will become more accessible to tourists and others. The means to realize this project are made available by the Government.

Apart from having to transfer to smaller boats to go ashore, the anchors of the boats can also roughen the sand, which is harmful to the coral further down the sea. This will be solved by placing buoys where the larger boats can moor. This will help to protect the coral.

For the design and implementation CPA will be in close consultation with stakeholders such as fishermen and tour operators. The construction of buoys will be done in consultation with the Implementing Organization Agricultural and Fisheries Management of the Ministry of Public Health, Environment and Nature.

At the moment CPA is busy with the preparations and it is expected that the work will be finalized at the beginning of 2015.
