Tugboat Mero touches water for the first time

“Kompania di Tou Korsou” (Curacao Towage Company) reached a new goal. The upcoming tugboat “Mero” deployed last 28th of July from Damen Shipyard in China with a traditional Chinese ceremony.

“Mero” is the fifth tugboat of KTK, built by Damen Shipyard. Last 28th of July the tugboat was deployed so it can undergo a rigorous test to see if the tug responds to all the standard international nautical rules. There will be some finishing touches done also on the tugboat before making its journey home to Curaçao.

The new tugboat will be officially delivered in the last week of September of 2008 and will immediately start its 7 weeks trip to the harbor of Curaçao by crossing the Pacific Ocean and the Panana Canal. “Mero” is scheduled to arrive at Curaçao the first week of November of this year to join the fleet consisted by Manta, Lima II, Jaro II and Ola. With the arrival of this new acquisition, KTK’s fleet will consist of 5 tugboats with capacities of more than 60 tons per ship. (Bollard Pull)

BUT…. KTK’s acquisitions are not stopping with the arrival of “Mero”! No, no, no! The KTK fleet of tugboats will expand in 2010 with the arrival of a colossal tugboat of 40 meters long and with 3 times more capacity than the other tugboats on the fleet.

KTK’s efficiency, on-time performance and reliability are well known around the world. The management of Curacao Ports Authority is very proud of the achievement of this young and dynamic company and wants to congratulate KTK and Damen for this achievement.

Masha Pabien!

(Congratulations!)
