CURACAO STRENGTHS KEY DATA
POLITICAL STRUCTURE

POLITICALSTRUCTURE

On the political front, Curacao is currently in a transitional phase.  At the end of 2008 the island will acquire its own ‘Status Aparte’ which means it will remain a part of the Dutch Kingdom, but will do so separately from the other islands which presently comprise the Netherlands Antilles. The local government is very proud of this achievement, which is backed and partially financed by the Dutch Government.
The government, which used to consist of two inter-related layers –an island sector and an ‘Antilles’ sector- will now have to make the transition to one layer of government between now and the end of 2008.
